At Mt. Angel Public Works, the main goal and objective is to serve the citizens of Mt. Angel with quality water service and upkeep of the wastewater and parks systems.
The water department operates three large wells with chlorination injection systems. The wells are maintained seven days per week. 20 miles of main water lines run underground under the city. Those lines as well as the customer service lines are constantly being maintained. Meters are replaced as they become old or damaged. Over 1000 water valves keep the water flowing properly, they are monitored and repaired when needed.
The sewer treatment facility operates around the clock. The facility consists of three lagoons, a wetlands, headworks and pumphouse, an office/lab facility, and a wet well all located on 40 acres outside of town. Treated water is discharged into the Pudding River from November to April. The other months, the water is recirculated within the lagoon system. The water is chlorinated and then de-chlorinated before it is released into the river.
Public works also maintains the City’s six parks year round. Besides the regular maintenance and upkeep of the parks, public works prepares them for private rentals and events. Reservations may be made through City Hall.
The City’s buildings are maintained by the Public Works staff. Every year they are evaluated for capital improvements and repairs. Other maintenance is done on an as needed basis.
The City’s vehicles are also maintained by the Public Works staff. Currently we have 3 dump trucks, 4 pickup trucks, the Street Sweeper in addition to a tractor and 3 mowers in the fleet. The sewer jetter trailer is another large piece of equipment that requires frequent attention.
The street system within the City is improved as needed. During the summer months the following projects are completed; street striping, road repair, pothole patching, continuous street sweeping, and assessment of the street signs (replacing them as needed.) Catch basins and storm systems are also inspected and repaired in preparation for the fall and winter. Public works is responsible for de-icing and sanding roads during the cold winter months. Re-grading and repairing the gravel roads is a wintertime project as well. Each year the City assesses which streets are eligible for the grant program through Marion County and applies for the grant money to resurface the eligible streets.
Please feel free to contact our department if you have any questions.
